Yard Sales

Summer is here and yard sales are popping up everywhere.  In fact, I went to nine yard sales / garage sales yesterday!!

Don't take the yard sale at face value, ask for what you are looking for!  If you are looking for vintage toys, ask the person having the yard sale if they have any or know anyone who would be willing to sell them.  Sometimes, people see this as an opportunity to clear out a basement or attic and will be glad to part with the items.

Of the nine sales I attended yesterday, two were "estate sales" where a loved one had died.  These sellers were intersted in getting rid of "everything" and will sometimes allow you access to the house to look around.  Other times, the sellers know family members or friends who may want to get rid of items that you are looking for.  I have a thing for vintage Halloween decorations.  I always ask if the seller has any that I can buy.

Yesterday, I asked a seller if she had any vintage toys that I might buy.  She jumped up, stepped into the garage, and returned with a Matchbox Cars case with about 10 Matchbox cars in it!!   She had not thought of her son's old toys for the yard sale.  I have no idea what the value of the cars are yet but the case was in great condition and so were the cars....I paid $4.00!

Happy hunting!
